History Escape

Escape Game: Revolution & the Weimar Republic

Germany's first democracy lasted 14 years — find out why it couldn't survive.

From the November Revolution of 1918 to the end of the Republic in 1933: this route takes you to the Berlin sites of Germany's first democracy. At each stop you solve puzzles that show how the rise, crisis, and fall of the Weimar Republic are connected.

You'll learn why a democratic constitution alone doesn't protect against authoritarian takeover, how emergency decrees normalized executive rule — and why the Basic Law of 1949 was explicitly designed to prevent the mistakes of Weimar.

You play without a guide and without an app, directly in your smartphone browser, walking the route at your own pace — around 2–3 hours on foot in total. Fully available in English and German.
